Cooling options for geekworm X630-A8

    I recently acquired a geekworkm KVM-A8, the pci version, and it works great. PiKVM is really awesome.

    My only complain is the tiny fan inside. It has a tiny whine sound really noticiable at night.

    Are there any recommendations for fan replacements?

    Can a tiny headsink be used instead, without negative consecuences?

    Q. Does KVM-A8 support passive heatsink such as (P165-A or P165-B etc) instead of fan?

    A: You can use the P165 aluminium heatsink or the H402 pure copper heatsink, but must remove the X630-A8 fan and fan connector.

    ①If use P165-A(thickness 7mm), you can use M2.5*5mm spacer instead of M2.5*12mm spacer to fix it;

    ②if use P165-B(thickness 11mm), you can directly use M2.5*6mm screws to fix it;

    ③if use H402(thickness 4mm), you can use M2.5*8mm spacer instead of M2.5*12mm spacer.

    You could add PWM control to the existing fan it you are comfortable with a little re-wiring.

    @Red Light Green Light Consider replacing the existing fan with a higher quality, quieter model. Look for fans specifically designed for low noise, such as those with fluid dynamic bearings (FDB) or rifle bearings.
    Brands like Noctua, Arctic, and Corsair offer quiet fans that may fit your space requirements. Be sure to check the dimensions and connector type to ensure compatibility.

    Hey everyone, I'm loving my new Geekworkm KVM-A8, the PCI version. PiKVM is a lifesaver! The only issue is that little fan. It's surprisingly noisy at night. Has anyone swapped theirs out? I'm even wondering if a small heatsink would work instead. It makes me wish I could just unplug it and run like the Dinosaur Game endlessly! Any advice on fan replacements or alternative cooling solutions?

    @crazy cattle 3d I’ve seen a few people swap the stock fan for a quieter 40mm Noctua or Sunon with good results. A heatsink alone might not be enough depending on your ambient temps, but a larger passive heatsink + good airflow in the case could work. Curious to hear what others have tried too.
