ICE Tower with vertically mounted Raspberry?

  • Hi,

I'm planning to vertically mount a Raspberry (in a Racknex 5x 10" Rack mount). Would this also work with the standard ICE Tower or would I have to worry about worse heat transfer or even damage?

    Greetings, Philip

  • Hi,Philip

Sorry, we haven't tested that. We cannot guarantee that the ice tower fan will work with it.

    Best regards

    Lisa

  • We are sorry to say that we haven't tried it yet. We are unable to provide any sort of guarantee that the ice tower fan will be compatible with it.

  • I've run tower-style coolers in different orientations on SBCs and haven't noticed any meaningful difference in cooling performance. The heat pipes in the standard ICE Tower are sealed and designed to work in various positions, so mounting the Raspberry Pi vertically shouldn't damage the cooler or significantly reduce heat transfer.

The main things I'd pay attention to are:

    • Make sure the cooler is mounted securely so there's no strain on the PCB during transport.
    • Ensure the fan has good airflow and isn't blocked by nearby rack equipment or cables.
    • After installation, run a quick stress test and monitor CPU temperatures to confirm everything is behaving as expected in your specific rack setup.

For a 10" rack with decent ventilation, I wouldn't expect the vertical orientation to be an issue. heardle
