Half height X650 PCIe doesn't fit in slot in server

  • I have an ASUS RS7001-E11-RS4U 1U server with a half height PCIe slot in a "butterfly riser cage". The half height bracket on the X650 doesn't fit into the slot on the board. It's too tall or something, and the piece that goes into the "slot" on the bracket is too low to fit in. Is this part not standards compliant?

  • Very strange.

Our half height bracket must be a standard part.

  • I actually ran into a similar issue a while back with a Dell R640 server and a network card. Even though the card was advertised as half height, the bracket was just a bit off and wouldn’t seat properly in the riser. I had to swap the bracket with a spare one from another card. Sometimes, minor variations in manufacturing really do cause these annoying compatibility issues!
