X728-a2 ups hat for rpi question about gpio pin connection

  My question is with the x728-a2 ups hat for raspberry pi can i cnnect it via a 40pin gpio extension cable instead of direccly pluging it to the top because i make a hanheld console and i want it to be the slimmer possible and if i add de ups hat at the top instead of next to the board so i want knot if it will work
