Geekworm is always on the way to develop products which meet our customer demand. Now we get more and more questions about if the Raspberry Pi X820 2.5 inch SATA module expansion board , or X850 mSATA storage module or X830 3.5 inch SATA module is compatible to use with the ROCK64 board.
ROCK64 is a credit card size 4K60P HDR Single Board Computer powered by Rockchip RK3328 Quad-Core ARM Cortex A53 64-Bit Processor and support up to 4GB 1600MHz LPDDR3 memory. It provides eMMC module socket, MicroSD Card slot, Pi-2 Bus, Pi-P5+ Bus, USB 3.0 and many others peripheral devices interface for makers to integrate with sensors and devices. Various Operating System (OS) are made available by open source community such Android 7.1, Debian, BSD and many more to come.
One thing it is better to compare with the current Raspberry Pi boards is that ROCK64 has one USB3.0 dedicated host (USB3.0 port). So many users will like this USB3.0 port with high speed transfer.
On the other hand, our Raspberry Pi X830 V2.0 3.5" SATA HDD Shield, X850 V3.0 mSATA SSD Shield and X820 V3.0 2.5" SATA HDD/SSD Shield both developed with USB3.0 port, so there is an imagine that the two USB3.0 port maybe use together to reach a high USB3.0 speed.
So the question is will the Raspberry Pi X820 , X830, X850 board be compatible to use with ROCK64 Board? The answer is yes.
Here we collected some customer feeback and questions, maybe it will help you!
Question 1:Hi, I am looking to buy your X830 expansion board to use with 3,5'' sata drive. I have no experience with Raspberry Pi, and I'm currently not yet in possession of one. I've been doing some research and the Rock64 looks interesting to me for its USB 3.0 port, Gigabit ethernet and bigger RAM than the Pi. As I could not find this anywhere, my question is: will the X830 expansion board work with the Rock64? I don't know if you are familiar with this board, but from what I can find about the Rock64: - Same form factor as Raspberry PI (same size, relevant ports at same position) - Relevant GPIO pins seem to match Raspberry PI Like I said I have no experience whatsoever, but from my current understanding it seems like it could work? Thanks in advance
Answer: The ROCK64 board can be used with X830 v2.0 board, but the ROCK64 board will not support the X830 v2.0 safeshutdown function.
Rock64 has USB3.0 and X830 also has USB3.0, now you can use the BLUE USB cable to replace the USB bridge to get usb 3.0 speed, and the USB3.0 connector bridge is still being produced now and may be will be available at the middle of April or earlier.
Feedback 1: Hello Geekworm!
My name is Steve, and I recently purchased the Raspberry Pi X850 V3.0 mSATA SSD Expansion Board and the case from Amazon. My plan is to build a Bitcoin full node, so I also purchased a Samsung 860 EVO 1TB mSATA Internal SSD which I mounted to the expansion board.
I love the board and the case, and I intend to leave positive feedback on Amazon, both for the products and for your Amazon store front.
However, I ran into a small issue that I just wanted to let Geekworm know about:
I did not use a Raspberry Pi because I wanted to take advantage of USB 3.0. At first I bought a Libre Computer Board ROC-RK3328-CC (Renegade). The 1gb version wasn't enough, but their 4gb version is priced at $80. So I instead bought a Pine64 Rock64 board. This board however doesn't use micro USB for power. It instead uses a Type H 3.5mm OD/1.35mm ID barrel ‘coaxial’ type.
This power input does not align as well as the micro USB does and I was wondering if Geekworm would currently, or in the future, consider making a case that better aligns with the Pine64 Rock64 board, even it means just making the opening a little wider to the right.
I've attached pictures to show my build and the issue I described here. I hope to hear back!

For the X820 V3.0 2.5" SATA storage board and metal case, it is OK to use with ROCK64 board, we have customers already use this X820 board with case with DC 5V 4A power supply kit with his ROCK64 board project.
For the X850 mSATA storage board, it is also OK to use with ROCK64 board, but the current X850 metal case is not suitable to install rock64 board, as the rock64 board power supply port is not completely available after installation. Because the raspberry pi has micro USB power supply port while ROCK64 board has DC port power supply. So the X850 metal case power supply port is not big enough to use with rock64. But we will update the X850 metal case in the next version.
For the X830 V2.0 3.5" SATA storage board and metal case, it is perfect to use with ROCK64 board, but the X830 safeshutdown function is not available to use on ROCK64 board, please note.
